First clean the walls wash with a detergent to remove dirt etc. On new walls you will need to prime the wall with a good primer.
Next mark a good straight line vertically down the all using a level or plumb. You want the first peice to be straight or you will have problems down the road.
Brush or roll a good amount of paste on the wall because the paper backing on the grassclth will absorb a lot. We suggest a premixed "Heavy duty clear strippable" paste. They can be purchased at home stores and most paint stores.
Install the first piece so the seam runs along your vertical line be very careful not to get past on the front side of the grasscloth as it may leave a permanent stain. Use a smoother brush or a vinyl smoother.
Install the remaining strips by butting the seams. Grasscloth has no match so don’t try to match the seams. Make your cuts with a sharp razor knife or scissors.
Going around corners is tricky. You may need to cut the grasscloth at the corners. Some pros use a steamer or just water to moisten the paper to bend around corners however some grasscloth inks may run and cause a stain. We suggest you take a scrap piece and test before you try using steam or water.
Some pros use staples when rounding corners or just to hold the paper up at difficult seams. If you do make sure and wait at least 2 or 3 hours for the paste to dry before removing the staples.
